Causes to Consider – 2019-20 Membership of Volunteer Campbell River

AIDS VANCOUVER ISLAND The vision is of a world free of HIV and hepatitis C. Until that time, those most at risk in our community continue to be marginalized – not only by their disease, but also by stigma and discrimination, poverty, and despair. As we fight these diseases, we join with those we serve to provide services based on consideration and respect and to provide visibility and a voice in the community.

ALTRUSA CLUB OF CAMPBELL RIVER  The mission statement of this service club is friendship, solidarity, service, growth, and understanding.

ALZHEIMER SOCIETY OF BC  Join a team of volunteers dedicated to a world without Alzheimer’s disease and other dementia, and who ensure people living with the disease are welcomed, acknowledged and included until that day comes.

BAHA’IS OF CAMPBELL RIVER The Baha’i teachings emphasize that all of us, as creations of one God are part of one human family.

BALANCE EQUESTRIAN THERAPEUTIC RIDING SOCIETY Balance Equestrian Centre located in Campbell River, BC. Offering lessons, training and boarding. Hunter/jumper and dressage. Ages 4 – adult.

BCSPCA (THE BRITISH COLUMBIA SOCIETY FOR THE PREVENTION OF CRUELTY TO ANIMALS) To protect and enhance the quality of life for domestic, farm and wild animals in B.C.

BLACK CREEK COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION Offers programs and rentals to local residents; non-profit society; gym, preschool, fun!

CAMERYN’S CAUSE FOR KIDS SOCIETY The purpose of the society is to establish and maintain a non-profit fund in the Campbell River Region that will provide emergency financial assistance to income-challenged guardians/parents of children facing life threatening illness, injury, or in the event of death. Funding would be provided for such services, but not limited to: respite, transportation, housekeeping, accommodation, nursing, and meals.

CAMPBELL RIVER AND DISTRICT ADULT CARE SOCIETY The Society offers a variety of therapeutic health, social and recreational programs designed to assist individuals and families with long term related problems.

CAMPBELL RIVER AND DISTRICT ASSOCIATION FOR COMMUNITY LIVING The Campbell River and District Association for Community Living is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to advocate for services and/or provide services for people with special needs and their families who live in the Campbell River area.

CAMPBELL RIVER AND DISTRICT FOOD BANK SOCIETY The Food Bank provides food to the needy, through donations from the community.

CAMPBELL RIVER FAMILY SERVICES – BETTER AT HOME Better at Home is a program that helps seniors/elders continue living in their own homes longer and stay connected in the community by providing some basic non-medical support services. Our services are provided to eligible seniors/elders on a sliding fee scale and some services may be free.

CAMPBELL RIVER & NORTH ISLAND TRANSITION SOCIETY The Campbell River and North Island Transition Society (CRNITS) is a non-profit registered society and registered Charitable Organization.  The CRNITS was formed in 1985 for the purpose of providing service to women and children who are dealing with issues of abuse and violence. The Ann Elmore Transition House was opened in 1987 and has been sheltering women and children ever since.   In 1997 services were expanded to include residential recovery from substance addiction. Various projects and programs have been added over the years.

CAMPBELL RIVER AIR YOUTH ASSOCIATION (CRAYA)  Youth adults 12 – 19 are taught wilderness survival techniques, have a marching band, learn first aid and learn to fly. CRAYA is the Parent Sponsoring Committee for our Air Cadets.   As a member of the Air Cadet League of Canada and in partnership with DND, this association provides funding and support for maintaining the facilities, plus programs and events throughout the year.  Funding mainly comes from BC Gaming, local fund raising events and by parent contributions.

CAMPBELL RIVER ALANO CLUB The Alano Club offers a supportive place for anyone in the community who wishes to socialize in an alcohol/ drug-free community. Alano Club makes it possible for people in the community to socialize in a safe, non-judgmental place and to support each other in making positive lifestyle choices.

CAMPBELL RIVER ART EXPO Dedicated to providing a safe and unbiased venue for all artists to show their work and enhance their income. The ultimate goal is to promote Campbell River as a premier art destination.

CAMPBELL RIVER ART GALLERY The Gallery advocates and supports artists in the community, promoting public interest in contemporary art, and acquires, maintains, and exhibits a collection of work.

CAMPBELL RIVER  ARTS COUNCIL The Arts Council fosters Arts and Cultural Activities in Campbell River and Area (including Quadra and Cortes) by providing funding to local groups and individual artists when possible.

CAMPBELL RIVER BAPTIST CHURCH A healthy church utilizes a large number of volunteers in a variety of ways both within and outside the church. Encouraging believers to get involved in church ministries is a spiritual service.

CAMPBELL RIVER BEACON CLUB The Beacon Club is a drop-in social club for people with chronic mental illness offering activities, programs, workshops, and social events.

CAMPBELL RIVER &  DISTRICT CHAMBER OF COMMERCE  The Campbell River & District Chamber of Commerce is a business organization dedicated to serving businesses and community prosperity.

CAMPBELL RIVER CHILD CARE SOCIETY An organization dedicated to providing quality child care services to families with children ages 15 months to 12 years of age.

CAMPBELL RIVER CHILDREN’S CHOIR PERFORMING SOCIETY  A local children’s singing group who meet Wednesdays and offer seasonal recitals.

CAMPBELL RIVER CHRISTIAN SCHOOL SOCIETY A ministry of the Baptist Church assists Christian parents in raising, educating, and training their children to live vital and active Christian lives.

 CAMPBELL RIVER CHURCH OF THE WAY CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP This Church is an independent fellowship of Christians who are looking to grow in faith and witness by meeting together for Sunday services (which includes a separate children’s time), mid-week home groups, and assorted outreach and learning opportunities throughout the year.

CAMPBELL RIVER COMETS TRACK & FIELD CLUB Community based sports club offering coaching, competition, access to the sport of track and field. Membership ages from 9 years to adults. We are a non-profit society.

CAMPBELL RIVER COMMUNITY FOUNDATION The Campbell River Community Foundation Mission is to enrich life in Campbell River by: Developing a permanent endowment, Assessing and responding to emerging and changing community needs, Providing a vehicle and service for donors with varied interests and levels of giving, and Serving as a resource catalyst for charitable activities in our community.

CAMPBELL RIVER DAYBREAK ROTARY CLUB The Campbell River Daybreak Rotary Club is one of more than 32,000 Rotary individual clubs operating in over 200 countries. Meets every Tuesday Morning at 6:45 am – 8:00 am at the Royal Coachman Pub (upstairs).

CAMPBELL RIVER EMERGENCY SUPPORT SERVICES TEAM (CRESST) Part of a community based provincial emergency response program which provides short-term disaster relief in the event of fires, floods, earthquakes or other emergencies. In concert with the Regional District, CRESST also does annual presentations on emergency preparedness in the local school and to groups/organizations upon request.

CAMPBELL RIVER FIRST OPEN HEART SOCIETY The objectives of the society are to support heart/cardiovascular patients and their families and heart-related specialized medical equipment and education for area hospitals and their staff.

CAMPBELL RIVER GIRL GUIDES This young women’s organization promotes good citizenship, leadership and service to the community through group meetings where girls make friends and develop skills.

CAMPBELL RIVER HEAD INJURY SUPPORT SOCIETY A group that works together with brain injury survivors and family members. We are a non profit group dedicated to providing support and education to the survivors of a brain injury, and their families.

CAMPBELL RIVER HEALING ROOMS CAMPBELL RIVER  Part of an International Association of Healing Rooms Ministries in churches and cities with a common vision to establish healing back into the body of Christ.

CAMPBELL RIVER HOSPICE SOCIETY The Campbell River Hospice Society is a community program for personal care of terminally ill people and their families.

CAMPBELL RIVER HOSPITAL AUXILIARY SOCIETY Auxiliaries are independent organizations that work in cooperation with Island Health. Many operate gift shops for patients and visitors and run programs that help add to the comfort and dignity of clients.

CAMPBELL RIVER HOSPITAL FOUNDATION Dedicated to fund raising for equipment, facilities improvement, services, patient care and comfort for the Campbell River and District General Hospital.

CAMPBELL RIVER LITERACY ASSOCIATION Promotes literacy in Campbell River and offers opportunities for people to improve their literacy skills and to develop and sponsor learning opportunities.  Offer English as a second language class for free.

CAMPBELL RIVER MARITIME HERITAGE SOCIETY Building the Maritime Heritage Centre was a Community Service Project of mammoth proportions for the Daybreak Rotary Club, with an impact on Campbell River for years to come.  The Centre is not considered a Museum, but rather an activity centre, containing facilities for education, research, exhibitions and social engagements – and most importantly, the reconstruction and housing of the BCP45 fishing seiner that once adorned the back of the Canadian five dollar bill.

CAMPBELL RIVER MINOR BASEBALL ASSOCIATION CRMBA is wholly run by volunteers. They rely heavily on parents to keep them going. Concession counter help, field prep, score-keeping and pitch-counting are available during the season to volunteer.

CAMPBELL RIVER MINOR HOCKEY ASSOCIATION Promote Hockey and volunteer as a parent, coach, or in safety.

CAMPBELL RIVER MINOR SOFTBALL ASSOCIATION Promote the game of softball for minor players.

CAMPBELL RIVER PARTNERS FOR ANIMAL WELFARE SOCIETY (CR PAWS)  CR PAWS is entirely run by volunteers. Whether it’s fostering, feeding or fundraising, we have a position for everyone. You can make a difference in the lives of animals in the community by donating your time to CR PAWS.

CAMPBELL RIVER SEARCH AND RESCUE Volunteers donate their time and effort to provide ground and inland water search and rescue services in Campbell River and the surrounding terrain.

CAMPBELL RIVER SENIORS SOCIETY To make a positive difference in the lives of the senior citizens of Campbell River and area by providing a facility in which they can socialize daily on a self-governing basis.

CAMPBELL RIVER SHORELINE ARTS Organizing the annual “Transformation on the Shore” Festival where trees transform into works of art that remain in the community.

CAMPBELL RIVER SKATING CLUB We offer Skate Canada’s Learn to Skate Program where good basics for all types of skating are learned. Hockey, figure skating, speed skating, or just recreational skating – skaters are taught the basics they need to succeed!

CAMPBELL RIVER TWINNING SOCIETY  We proclaim that we will contribute to friendship between the town of Ishikari, in the preference of Hokkaido, Japan and the District of Campbell River, B.C., Canada with the desire to continue to strive for advance in friendship, and promotion of mutual interchanges in the various fields of economy, culture, education, sports, and so on.

CAMPBELL RIVER UNITED CHURCH As a Church family we look forward to gathering each week for worship and we’re pleased to welcome and include new people who come to be with us, either for one Sunday as a visitor, or as the beginning of making this their church home. We welcome you to join us for coffee and fellowship after the service.

CAMPBELL RIVER WHITE CANE CHAPTER The Campbell River White Cane Club is a chapter of the Canadian Council of the Blind, which offers support and companionship.

CANADIAN BLOOD SERVICES SOCIETY Operates Canada’s blood supply in a manner that gains the trust, commitment and confidence of all Canadians by providing a safe, secure, cost-effective, affordable and accessible supply of quality blood, blood products and their alternatives.

CANADIAN CANCER SOCIETY A National Community based organization of volunteers whose mission is the eradication of cancer while offering support for people living with cancer.

CENTRE FOR SPIRITUAL LIVING The Centre for Spiritual Living in Campbell River provides spiritual tools to transform personal lives and help make the world a better place.

CHRISTIAN LIFE CHILDREN’S CENTRE Licensed facility daycare.  Pre-school – Out of school program.  All year.

CHRISTIAN LIFE FELLOWSHIP Christian Life Fellowship is a loving, Christ-centred, Spirit filled church in Campbell River, with a special focus toward children and youth, while reaching out to all.

CITY OF CAMPBELL RIVER- 50+ ACTIVE LIVING Volunteers are always appreciated and necessary to provide the many low cost program offered through the Campbell River Recreation & Culture Department.  We will accommodate your talents to assist with leading 50+ programs, and assisting with fundraisers or special events.

COMOX VALLEY LIFELINE SOCIETY Lifeline is a personal emergency response system that provides help twenty four hours a day, seven days a week, at the push of a button.

DISCOVERY PASSAGE AQUARIUM Visitors to the Discovery Passage Aquarium will be able to check out the wonderful diversity of life within our rocky tide pools, kelp forests, and eel grass beds. There will be many interactive opportunities, with knowledgeable and friendly staff to engage and entertain.

FOREST CIRCLE SOCIETY FOR FAMILIES A non-profit society that provides safe, nurturing and educational child care programs to families in the Campbell River area.  Two licensed group facilities, Forest Circle Child Care and Cari’s Infant and Toddler Centre, are located on and integrated with the campuses of North Island College and Carihi Secondary School.

GREENWAYS LAND TRUST  The Land Trust creates and manages greenways networks, based on principles of stream and land stewardship and development, within public and private property partnerships.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY VANCOUVER ISLAND NORTH SOCIETY International organization dedicated to building homes for low income families.  Local ReStore raises funds to build houses in Campbell River.

HEART AND STROKE FOUNDATION A volunteer-based health charity, leads in eliminating heart disease and stroke and reducing their impact through the advancement of research and its application, the promotion of healthy living, and advocacy.

IMMIGRANT WELCOME CENTRE (MISA) Helping immigrants and their families make a successful adjustment to life in Canada.  Promoting cross-cultural exchange and understanding through educational workshops.

ISLAND HEALTH VOLUNTEER RESOURCES  (includes Campbell River Hospital, Yuculta Lodge and Public Health) Coordinating volunteers to assist patients, residents, and visitors of CR District & General Hospital and Yucalta Lodge, an intermediate care facility.   PUBLIC HEALTH  provides public health nursing services.

INCLUSION   Inclusion is a group of  Campbell River, B.C. music-lovers spending our time, effort and talent to raise awareness that people are more alike than different. We have been meeting and making music together since 2005.  Our group’s most unique feature is its diversity. Four of our members have developmental disabilities, but our variety also moves beyond this aspect to include age, ethnicity, race.

JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT BRITISH COLUMBIA –  A registered charity that brings a variety of financial literacy, work readiness and entrepreneurship training courses into elementary, middle and secondary school classrooms.

LAICHWILTACH FAMILY LIFE SOCIETY  provides holistic services (cultural, mental, emotional, spiritual, physical) to Aboriginal people and families in the Campbell River region and surrounding area and Comox Valley.

MENTAL HEALTH RECOVERY PARTNERS, NORTH ISLAND The Society is dedicated to providing support and education to families and their ill relatives suffering from schizophrenia and other serious mental illnesses.

MOUNTAINAIRE AVIAN RESCUE SOCIETY Dedicated to helping ill, injured, orphaned and oiled wildlife — mainly birds — recover and eventually be released back to the wild.

MUSEUM AT CAMPBELL RIVER The Museum open to the public and administered in the public interest, for the preservation and conservation of objects of historic interest and value relating to the development and settlement of the community.

NAVY LEAGUE OF CANADA – CAMPBELL RIVER SEA CADETS The Royal Canadian Sea Cadets is a civilian youth program delivered in partnership by The Navy League of Canada and the Department of National Defence. The Sea Cadet program provides exciting opportunities and challenges for today’s youth.

NORTH ISLAND COLLEGE From university studies to apprenticeship training, upgrading courses to degree programs, NIC offers a wide range of programs and courses to help you reach your goals.

NORTH ISLAND DRAGON BOAT SOCIETY An all female team and was formed in 2006 as a non-profit group to promote awareness of all types of cancer and to contribute to the battle to find a cure. Our members are made up of cancer sufferers, cancer survivors, and their supporters from our community who have come together to provide and maintain a full active lifestyle. The team practices every Tuesday and Thursday (weather permitting) during the season and visitors are welcome to join us to experience the exhilaration of dragon boating.

NORTH ISLAND EMPLOYMENT FOUNDATIONS SOCIETY (NIEFS) As the WorkBC Employment Service Centre for Campbell River and surrounding area we are your one-stop shop for employment services.

NORTH ISLAND SUPPORTIVE RECOVERY SOCIETY Provides a Second Chance Supportive Recovery House to the community as well as  a detox non-medical bed for adult males who are recovering from drugs and/or alcohol addictions.

OPPORTUNITIES CAREER SERVICES SOCIETY Provides career/life management skills through career counselling, resume and job search services to adults and youth.

RACE THE RIVER DRAGON BOAT REGATTA Annual dragon boat race to promote dragon boat racing and showcase Campbell River by putting on a dragon boat event.

RADIANT LIFE OUTREACH a group of people that come without judgement. Everyone is welcome. We seek to introduce people to Jesus, to learn to grow spiritually, to walk with those who need a hand and be a transforming presence in downtown Campbell River.

RIVER CITY ARTS FESTIVAL SOCIETY The River City Arts Festival is along Shoppers Row in downtown Campbell River. The streets will be filled with an assortment of art ranging from visual artists, sculpture, live music, performance artists, art demos and things to see and do.

RIVERCITY PLAYERS River City Players Society has been presenting quality theatrical productions for more than 41 years. Completely volunteer driven, the club has only had one goal  to bring the magic of theatre to Campbell River!

SCHOOL DISTRICT NO.72 CAMPBELL RIVER This district provides education from elementary through high school in Campbell River. 

SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 93 (ECOLE MER ET MONTAGNE) L’école Mer et montagne est une école publique qui a inauguré son école homogène en septembre 2005.  L’école offre un programme d’étude complet en français de la maternelle à la 12e année.

SCOUTS CANADA Scouts Canada is  a youth organization offering education and participation based on three principles representing our fundamental beliefs: Duty to God, Duty to Others and Duty to Self.

SHORELINE MUSICAL THEATRE SOCIETY  A society that puts on musicals throughout the year.

SPECIAL OLYMPICS BC – CAMPBELL RIVER  Our Mission is to provide individuals with intellectual disabilities opportunities to enrich their lives and celebrate personal achievement through positive sport experiences.

ST. JOHN AMBULANCE BRIGADE For over a century, St. John Ambulance Canada volunteers have been dedicated to a singular vision: to enable Canadians to improve their health, safety and quality of life by providing community services and first aid training.

ST. PATRICKS’S PARISH A Roman Catholic parish serving Campbell River.

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY  The society organizes home visits and issues food vouchers for those families and individuals in need.

TEEN FLIGHT CR SOCIETY The mission of TeenFlight is to build enthusiasm for aviation, learn some skills and, above all, HAVE FUN!

THE JOHN HOWARD SOCIETY OF NORTH ISLAND A charitable organization whose mission is to promote and foster safer and healthier communities by providing appropriate programs of rehabilitation, education, prevention and healing for those who need an opportunity to achieve, maintain or regain a balance within their communities.

THE SALVATION ARMY Operates the Thrift Store, New Beginnings Boutique, the Lighthouse Centre and the Ocean Crest Community Church which provides homeless outreach and emergency shelter in the Campbell River area.

TIDEMARK THEATRE SOCIETY The Society works to improve/equip the theatre, identify cultural needs of groups in the community, and organize and manage year round cultural opportunities.

TRINITY PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH Trinity Presbyterian is a congregation of The Presbyterian Church in Canada.

VICTORY NOW CHURCH Where People can Come Together in Unity and Worship Jesus in Spirit and in Truth.

WILLOW POINT SUPPORTIVE LIVING SOCIETY This Society runs seniors’ independent living facility.

YUCALTA LODGE AUXILIARY As members of the Yucalta Lodge Auxiliary, our mission is Care and Comfort for the Residents of Yucalta Lodge

Habitat for Humanity Vancouver Island North is looking for volunteers for its Fundraising Team for an online auction taking place this June, with proceeds going towards Habitat VIN’s upcoming housing projects in Campbell River and Courtenay, which will provide safe and affordable homes for 32 families in need. Altrusa Campbell River is always looking for new members!The Altrusans are an inclusive group of people who enjoy giving back by helping with hands-on volunteering or monetary donations. Their focus is on helping women and children in need with a special emphasis on literacy. Altrusans enjoy preparing Baby’s Best Chance gift bags for mothers who register with Family Services for the Pregnancy Outreach program. In addition, Altrusans pack backpacks of Hope delivered to the Women’s Centre for distribution to homeless women, read in the schools, bake muffins for a school lunch program, and make quillows for Anne Elmore House and Victims Assistance and more. Campbell River Hospital Auxiliary operates a thrift shop on hospital property that is very well-supported by the community with donations of gently used items and by the customers. They are looking for thrift shop cashiers! Volunteers in this role will be under the direction of the thrift shop convenor.
