About Us

Volunteer Campbell River is a non profit organization that helps people and projects come together.

Established in 1988, the Campbell River Volunteer Society has grown and flourished from a person answering a phone in their home to a vibrant, community not-for-profit agency that supports over 100 organizations.

Also known as Volunteer Campbell River, VCR runs a number of valuable programs including Volunteer and Community Engagement and Non-Profit Leadership and Support support for the Campbell River region. In the spring of 2019, VCR added the Campbell River Senior Support Program to its services as well as a youth engagement project, Youth Can 2020. In July of 2020, VCR began offering the Better at Home Program which supports seniors to age in their homes. VCR is run with 5 regular part-time staff, contracted staff, a great team of office volunteers and is overseen by a volunteer board of directors.

In April 2019, Volunteer Campbell River is very pleased to establish a supportive partnership with the Comox Valley Volunteer Connector to provide volunteering support and non-profit leadership for and in the Comox Valley.

Volunteers shape our community and VCR is an important link in this process!

The numbers are in! Almost 80% of Canadians over 15 years of age volunteered in 2018! This is equivalent to 2.5 million FULL TIME jobs! This number includes formal and informal volunteer roles. It’s the first time that the Stats Can report collected information on informal volunteering (described in the article). Another cool fact is that youth are volunteering more than any other age group (over 50%) while older adults contribute the most time to their volunteer activities! Read the article for more interesting nuggets! Happy National Volunteer Week and THANK YOU for volunteering! ...

The Daily — Study: Volunteering counts: Formal and informal contributions of Canadians in 2018

www150.statcan.gc.ca

Volunteers play an important role in maintaining community well-being and contributing to the overall Canadian economy. Their annual time commitments equalled more than 2.5 million full-time jobs in 2018.

Art, in all its forms, creates pathways for people to explore important ideas and create positive change.

This year Volunteer Campbell River saw this expressed through the Vancouver Island Youth Film Festival - where young filmmakers shared stories around the theme of "hope". Each individual who participated had the opportunity to impart important stories, and together they created powerful message of hope for the community.

Thank you to the artists and creatives who volunteer their time and skills to inspire us all.

Each one makes a difference. Together, they are a powerful force protecting our community. Thank you, Volunteers!
