Strategic Panning and Community Gaming Workshops – Thurs, February 25th 2016

THINK STRATEGICALLY, ACT LOCALLY: A LEARNING AND DISCUSSION EVENT ABOUT  STRATEGIC PLANNING FOR COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Strategic planning is an important skill for many community organizations. This workshop has been developed to help those organizations understand the basic principles of developing an implementing strategic plans. Topic covered include working together, the six steps of strategic planning, implementation, evaluation and identifying roles and responsibilities.

Jim Sand is a Project Coordinator for the Social Planning and Research Council of BC. He has worked in the non-profit sector as a project coordinator, researcher and facilitator aJim Sandsnd has lead workshops in over 40 communities across BC on topics including the Social Determinants of Health, social inclusion and partnership building. Jim is also also a storyteller and musician who have performed across Canada.

Lawrie PortugalLawrie (Lawrence) Portigal is a native of Calgary, and attended the University of Alberta where he received decrees in Science and Law. he is a retired member of the Alberta Bar. Lawrie was employed by the City of Calgary and later was a senior executive in the coal, electricity and natural gas industries. Lawrie is active in the volunteer sector and is Vice Chair of Richmond Cares Richmond Gives (Volunteer Richmond); a director of the Touchstone Family Association; President of Volunteer BC and Chair of Volunteer Canada.

COMMUNITY GAMING GRANT INFORMATION WORKSHOP 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.

The BC Association for Charitable Gaming (BCACG) is a non-profit society that represents and supports community groups applying for a Community Gaming Grant. Their workshops review the eligibility requirements, program descriptions and details, budget, in-kind support, volunteers and key considerations when accounting for activities.David Sheach

David Sheach is the Executive Director of the BCACG and is presenting a two hour Gaming Grant workshop to help you prepare and accurate application and manage the funding according to the conditions of the grant.

LOCATION & PRICING

Maritime Heritage Centre, Island Highway, Campbell River. Doors open at 9:00 a.m.

Volunteer Campbell River and/or CR Gaming Association Members: Full Day $55 per person, includes lunch, Morning Only $35 pp, Afternoon Only $25 pp

Non-Members: Full Day $80 per person, includes lunch, Morning Only $50 pp, Afternoon Only $35 pp

TeenFlight is a free program available to teens ages 15 to 18 years of age who have an interest in aviation. During the program, the group builds an aircraft alongside experienced volunteer mentors.

Teenflight is looking for someone who can bring experience and expertise to ensure the financial success of their group as a Treasurer on their Board of Directors. Booking keeping experience is required for this role.

The board meetings are typically once per month for1.5 hours. Board Members are asked to fulfill a two-year term which, which may be renewed.

Do you care about animal welfare? CR PAWS is an active advocate and caretaker for the feral and community cat population, and assists in lost animal searches, fosters/socializes/adopts kittens and cats, and does barn cat placements. ⁠

Volunteers are currently needed to do odd jobs within the society. This is a great role for someone who wants to just help however needed. Tasks can include transporting cats to vet appointments, bottle sorting, washing laundry, cutting cardboard, picking up donations, and other odd jobs. ⁠
