LYNDA HARRIS RETIRES
Volunteer Campbell River is sad to announce the retirement of our long time Office Assistant Lynda Harris. Lynda will be greatly missed for her friendly demeanour and enthusiasm towards volunteerism.
Please join Volunteer Campbell River in saying farewell and thanks to Lynda by coming to the Volunteer Centre for a retirement party on Wed. December 16th at 1:00 pm. Please RSVP mail@volunteercr.ca.
Volunteer Campbell River Business After Hours
Volunteer Campbell River and the Chamber of Commerce held a successful Business After Hours Event on Tuesday, Nov. 17th, from 4:30 – 6 pm at the Volunteer Centre. Volunteerism was the buzz word in group discussions along with light snacks and friendly conversation. Thank you to those of you that joined us for this event.
North Island Board Institute Workshop Series
We had an overwhelming response to our NIBI workshops this year with 4 sold out workshops! We hope those of you that joined us enjoyed the sessions and were able to take the valuable information back to your boards, staff and volunteers to help with the effectiveness of your organizations.
Let us know if you have any workshop ideas for next year!
Craft Fundraiser
The Volunteer Centre craft ladies have once again been busy creating our hand made All Occasion, Christmas and Tea Pot Cards. We also have various other hand made items such as pillows, hats and scarves, dish cloths, purses etc. for sale as a fundraiser for Volunteer Campbell River.
Items can be purchased at the Centre during business hours or cards can be purchased at the CR Art Gallery Christmas Market. We will also be at the Sportsplex Toy and Craft Fair on Sunday, November 29th.
Criminal Record Checks
The RCMP office will no longer be providing “box 4 letters”. Instead, when asked by a client, the RCMP will verbally provide the information to the person regarding their crc. It is recommended that an agency follows up with the volunteer to ask what the reason for the box 4 check was and then to confirm with the RCMP. The RCMP will in turn respond to the agency with “I can confirm that information” or “You will need to talk further with the volunteer”. Only agencies listed on the back of the crc form will be allowed to request the confirmation. If a volunteer comes to you after the crc form has been done they can ask the RCMP to have an agency added to their form.
If someone has a May or May Not Exist in any of the 4 boxes on the crc form this means:
Box 1 – they have been convicted of an offence
Box 2 – they have upcoming charges
Box 3 – they have been charged but not convicted
Box 4 – any adverse information regarding the person

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for the wonderful job you and your team did in recruiting our volunteers for the event on Monday. We couldn't have done this without your help!
